FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT WILL MY ASSESSMENT CONSIST OF AND HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?
You or your representative will be asked some questions about your neurological condition and how it may cause you any difficulty with your movement and functional ability. You will also be asked some questions about your general health and a full medication history will also be required.
Following this your movement/function will be assessed via observation, handling of your limbs. The assessment will be taking into account aspects such as muscle tone, strength, co-ordination, balance and joint range of movement. This means that you may be required to remove some items of clothing, so please come suitably dressed (loose fitting clothes or shorts and sleeveless tops are ideal)
An assessment could take up to 1.5 hours but on average most assessments are complete within 1 hour.
WILL I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING TO THE ASSESSMENT?
It would be extremely helpful if you were able to bring an up to date list of medications or any medical investigation reports/relevant correspondence.
Please also bring any existing splints or existing exercise programmes that have been provided.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Please wear loose fitting clothing where possible. Shorts and sleeveless tops are ideal or wear layers that can be removed if required. Please wear comfortable/sensible footwear.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN FOLLOWING THE ASSESSMENT?
We will discuss the assessment findings with you and mutually we will agree an appropriate therapy plan based on your goals/expectations.
