Stroke Condition

Specialist Neurological Physiotherapy can help address a range of symptoms that may present as a result of enduring a Stroke (Ischaemic- ‘clot’ or Haemorrhagic- ‘bleed’).

Each person affected by a Stroke will present differently. A Neurological Physiotherapist will devise a bespoke rehabilitation programme to facilitate your recovery.

It is very likely that even years following a stroke you will see some improvement in function with Neuro Physiotherapy, this is because often you develop dysfunctional movement patterns as a result of muscle weakness or spasticity (stiffness) which can be unlearnt with the specialist movement analysis skills and ‘hands on’ movement facilitation skills of a Neuro Physiotherapist.

You may develop muscle spasticity which can interfere with movement and cause severe muscle tightness in some cases. A Neuro Physiotherapist is trained to offer advice about how to best manage these symptoms including splinting, medication management, Botulinum Toxin and stretching/positioning programmes.

There are other therapy adjuncts such as Saeboflex, Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) and hydrotherapy that may be beneficial within your rehabilitation plan.

A Neuro Physiotherapist will also be able to offer advice in relation to walking aids, home equipment, wheelchairs and orthoses that may assist your mobility.
