In order to maximise functional independence or frequently to prevent contracture (fixed shortening of soft tissues) formation, it often necessary for Therapists to request an opinion from our colleagues in Orthotics. An Orthotist has specialist knowledge in biomechanics, they are skilled Allied Health Professionals that can prescribe, design, fit and monitor
orthoses.

Physiotherapist’s and Orthotist’s work closely together to identify movement inefficiencies- an orthotist’s recommendations for stock versus custom made orthotic devices are based on a very in-depth knowledge of movement analysis.

Here at Tees Neuro Physiotherapy we work closely with Steeper Group and are happy to organise private orthotic or joint consultations for advice on a full head to toe range of orthoses.

“Wow where do I start. I met Vicki after being in hospital for a few months. I was still in a powered wheelchair with so much determination to walk again but didn’t know where to start.
